Happy campers? Yes it’s a real thing.

The Steps Barrington Campground

All those campers and caravaners have good reasons for all those smiles.

With the recent long weekend announcing the start of the camping season, you probably saw the influx of visitors throughout the Barrington Coast: vehicles packed with camping gear, happy kids and happy parents too.

Camping and caravaning is a hugely popular holiday activity that many Australians have enjoyed since they were kids. Research from Caravan Industry Association of Australia shows 70% of Australians said they have visited a camping ground, caravan holiday park or national park at least once in their lifetime. (Source Caravanning and Camping Consumer Demand Report 2017)

More importantly, additional research into the Australian travel mindset found that campers were happier, more socially and environmentally conscious and closer to their loved ones than Australians who do not camp.

The same research found that:

  • 96% believe that camping makes them happier
  • 95% believes that camping reduces stress, and
  • 94% believe that camping makes them appreciate nature more, generates happy memories and recharges their batteries.

So come to the Barrington Coast for camping or bring your caravan, there are some very compelling reasons for all those smiles you’ll see.

Camping on the north coast

Destination NSW statistics for year-ended December 2018 show that regional NSW received nearly 4.0 million domestic caravan and camping visitors (up 6.1% from 2017) who stayed 15.5 million nights (up 2.2%) and spent $2.1 billion (up 16.9%).

These latest statistics show the north coast region tops the state in everything: the highest share (33%) of commercial campground campers plus the highest share (21%) of non-commercial/national parks campers.

And the north coast region was the most popular camping destination in NSW overall (27% share), followed by the south coast region (19%) and then central NSW (13%).

Overall, the volume of caravan and camping visitors, nights and expenditure in NSW have increased since year-ended December 2010 and were highest on record for visitor numbers (up 42.3%) and expenditure (up 58.7%).
