(Article by Andrew Hutchinson on www.socialmediatoday.com 10 Sep 2019).
Social analytics platform Quintly has conducted a new study of Instagram post performance, analyzing more than 34k Instagram business profiles, and 5.4 million posts, which were published between January 1st and June 30th, 2019.
Some key findings from the report:
- 68% of Instagram posts are single images BUT multi-image carousels receive 25% more interactions than single images AND video posts receive up to 19% more interactions than carousels; SO video posts can receive up to 49% more interactions than single images!
- 67% of all posts have accompanying text longer than 150 characters BUT posts with 1-50 characters tend to receive more interactions;
- More than 50% of all posts don’t include emojis BUT having no emojis can mean lower interactions: If you have less than 1000 followers then the best results come with 10+ emojis; if you have 10k-100k followers then the best results are fairly split between 1-3, 4-10 and 10+ emojis;
- 35% of Instagram posts contained 1-3 hashtags while 29% didn’t include any hashtags. If you have less than 1,000 followers the best results came with using 10+ hashtags BUT if you have 1,000-10,000 followers then best results came with 1-3 hashtags.
